Kamiak Novice Tournament Invite

Hello everyone,

Please be advised the Kamiak Novice Tournament is quickly approaching, on Oct. 16th. The deadline to sign up for this tournament is Friday Oct 8th. You will need to sign up with me before then, after asking your parent/guardian for permission.

This is a one-day tournament only open to first year debaters. Returning debaters may come to judge, permitting space.

We will depart at 7AM (location of departure TBD) and return late on Saturday. We will have students contact rides once we get into Skagit County, to give families 30 minutes notice.

Please make sure you bring food and drink for the day. We do not leave campus for lunch, etc. They will sell pizza at noon at the school, but sometimes sell out quickly.

Thank you and please email me with questions.

Who can judge? Second year debaters can judge at this tournament. This is usually considered a fun opportunity for these students. We will accept any second year student, for IE’s if you feel they are capable of rendering qualified, thoughtful, kind, and intelligent ballots. Policy novice case areas

From the coaches meeting on 9/11:

this caselist is used at the whitman tournament (I'll update our invitation for this later tonight).

Novices are restricted to the following affirmatives:
· Remove tactical nuclear weapons from Turkey
· End the Counter-insurgency campaign in Afghanistan
· Close all US military bases in Okinawa
· Remove US military presence in South Korea
· Substantially reduce use of Private Military Contractors from Iraq and/or Afghanistan

Novices are not allowed to run counterplans or kritiks. The novice case areas will be in place all year.

3rd Annual Debate Garage Sale!

Oct 2nd is our first debate fundraiser of the season. Please join us for the 3rd annual debate team garage sale, from 8AM-1PM at the Whatcom Volunteer Center. Students are to arrive at 8AM with goods for the garage sale, and stay to help with take down at 1pm. We'll need volunteers with trucks and other vehicles to haul leftovers to Goodwill at the end.

Please collect items from your family, friends, and co-workers. We'll take any decent items except:
- Old electronics
- Large pieces of furniture
- Hazardous materials

Anything we'd have to pay to get rid of, we don't want! Anything else is great. Last year we made over $700, so let's break that record. Every team member is expected to participate. This fundraiser helps us attend tournaments by paying judge fees, registration costs, and hotel/travel expenses. Your participation is key, so tell everyone about the sale! We'll be in the parking lot of the Whatcom Volunteer Center at 725 N State St.

Thanks!
