Please Read! State Qual info + Kamiak recap

Hello everyone,

Please read the following information regarding the State Qualifier/District One tournament:

Tuesday March 1st is our next tournament, the State Qualifier. We will depart at 2pm sharp from Bellingham, and I will have more details on which school we will leave from. The tournament only allows three teams from each school (i.e. two LDers, one CX or two CX and one LDer). Please let me know in writing OR call me if you would like to attend. I will select those who have put in the work, attended practice, and have a good attitude. You will also need to pay your March dues to attend. Please note you will need to debate in Open, as there is no Novice category at this tournament. I do encourage Novices to consider going, as it is great experience for next year. I need to submit registration this week, so please contact me no later than Wednesday, Feb. 9th. Please do not delay, as I do not have time to track you down for a definite answer.

Now onto the Kamiak HS tournament recap:

Many thanks to the people who helped out this weekend. Ann Osborne drove AND judged, a valuable parent indeed. Gordon Friedman, a former debater, also volunteered to judge. Ken Carpenter brought snacks for the students on what turned out to be a long Saturday. Thank you!

Sehome/Bellingham brought home second place trophies from Mukilteo. Novice policy team Jamie Korner (of BHS) and Connor Carpenter (of SHS) tied with Ballard's 5-1 record, and took 2nd based on speaker points. Will McShane (SHS) also went 5-1 and placed 2nd in JV LD. Senior Rose Osborne (SHS) kept with the trend and went 5-1 in Open LD, winning second place. She was also first place speaker. If you'd like to see pictures these students at the tournament, check out our blog.

Thank you for reading, students please bring flows on Tuesday, and get back to me about March 1st!
