Don't forget! Parent meeting tomorrow + Sedro results

Hello Everyone,

Just a reminder that our parent/guardian meeting is tomorrow, 11/19 from 8-8:30pm. We'll just take the last half hour of practice to have volunteer sign-ups. This is our fundraiser for the year so please don't miss this planning meeting! We meet in Sehome computer lab room 109.

The Glacier Peak tournament is the weekend after ours, on 12/20-12/21. Please let me know by 12/9 if you plan on attending so I can get transportation, judges, and lodging lined up. Parents, please also let me know if you can help with judging or driving to this tournament. The schools will provide the vehicles and gas and our team pays hotel.

And now results from this past weekend's tournament:

First, I need to thank our tireless (okay, maybe not tireless) volunteer Laura Livingston for once again helping with judging and driving. We appreciate her willingness to drive her own vehicle, too.  Please be sure to thank Laura when you see her!

Bellingham's Marina Rossman and William Woods took 1st place in open policy debate. This was the first policy debate tournament for Marina so we are pleased with the results!
Second place in open policy was Sehome's Connor Carpenter and Felipe Rivera. It was tough to match their teammates in finals and they did a great job.
Third place in open policy debate was a hybrid team of Squalicum's Sam Sandoz and Sehome's Bryce Henshaw. Congrats to Sam on her first policy debate tournament and also congrats to Bryce for being brave and competing in open (this is only her second tournament ever!)

In novice policy debate, Bellingham's Adele Clark and Julia Lafortune took third place. Way to go, ladies.

This was certainly a first- everyone came home with a trophy!

Thanks for reading and I look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow at practice and at the meeting.

Homework due 11/17

Due on 11/17: organize your flows from the Sedro Woolley tournament. Decide which speech you would like to redo (choose a rebuttal speech, either aff or neg). Come prepared on Tuesday to do a rebuttal redo.

Second part of the homework- make sure you invite your parents to the Tuesday, Nov 19th meeting @ 8pm-8:30pm. We need 100% participation from our parents again to make our tournament a success!

Updates

Hi everyone,

Lots to cover in this email so I'll get to it:

1) November 15th and 16th is the Sedro Woolley tournament. Please reserve your spot by Friday November 8th. It takes me time to line up transportation, judges and registration so please don't delay! Here's the link to the invite: http://www.forensicstournament.net/tournamentdocs/1141-2014WoolleyInvite.pdf

We'll want to avoid the congestion of buses/cars so we'll leave at 2:30 from Sehome and Bellingham HS. Sehome students + Sam, meet Laura in the Sehome teacher lot (same as last meeting place). Bellingham students, meet me (Aly) at BHS where the district vans are parked, next to the baseball field.

I can only predict that we'll get back around 10:30pm on Friday. We'll need to leave again at 7am on Saturday. We will all depart Saturday from Bellingham HS.

Please be sure to pay your November $35 dues to your ASB in order to attend the tournament. Bring flow paper, food/money for concessions, pens, and professional clothing.

2) Our fundraiser and tournament is quickly coming up on December 14th. WWU debate team kindly hosts it for us. We will need parents and students to all participate in order to make this a success. Things we will need volunteers for: donating/preparing food for judges/coaches, judging, and outreach to school admin/teachers. We had 100% participation from parents last year and it was a great tournament. Come learn about volunteer positions on Tuesday, November 19th, from 8pm-8:30pm. We'll just use the last half hour of practice. We meet in room 109 at Sehome (our regular practice room). Hope you can attend!

3) Finally, results from the Snohomish Tournament this past weekend. First off, please be sure to thank Laura, our wonderful volunteer, for driving AND judging both days. Thank you thank you thank you!

Secondly, let's congratulate Sehome's Connor Carpenter and Felipe Rivera. They went 6-0 and won first place. Great start to the season!

Bellingham's Adele and Julia both jumped into open level policy debate in order to debate with Will. This was their second tournament and I am proud of them for challenging themselves. Will is a good mentor, too.

Duncan Ogg from Squalicum had the highest speaker points, averaging 28.5 (out of 30) each round. And Marina pulls ahead to have the most National Forensic League Points, earning Special Distinction.

Great job everyone. I look forward to another good showing at Sedro Woolley.
