I know this is a belated update, but for those I haven't seen yet I thought I would share the good news:
At the University of WA tournament this past weekend, Duncan Ogg from SQHS was a quarter finalist in Open Lincoln-Douglas. He also took home a 2nd place speaker award.
This turned out to be a bigger tournament that expected, so I appreciate everyone's flexibility as we dealt with the chaos. I especially want to thank Lynn Korner and Steve Woods for judging and driving at the tournament. They made it possible for us to bring everyone who wanted to attend. THANK YOU!
A few items to note:
We won't have practice on Friday, Dec. 16th as SQHS team members will be working concessions at a wrestling match (a fundraiser for the team). This is the Friday before winter break officially begins.
The Mt. Vernon HS tournament on Jan 20th and 21st is our next tournament. This is not an overnight tournament, so parents are welcome to judge/drive either Friday or Saturday. Please contact me, parents, if you can drive that weekend and we will provide judge training.
December dues are due! Please pay your $35 to your ASB office if you haven't done so already. Turning in dues on time allows us to keep traveling to tournaments.

Remaining tournaments
Hello all,
If you're attending the UW tournament this weekend, be aware that we are all leaving from Bellingham HS by 8am.
Below is the schedule of remaining tournaments:
December 2nd-3rd, University of WA (Seattle)
January 20th-21st, Mt Vernon High School (not overnight, come back Friday night and depart again early Saturday)
February 3rd-4th, Kamiak HS Invitational (Mukilteo, WA)
February District 1 Debate Qualifiers (Date/location TBA, not overnight)
March 1st-3rd Puget Sound National Forensic League Qualifiers (location TBA, not overnight)
March 16th-17th State Debate @ Gonzaga University (most likely leave the 15th, the Thursday beforehand)

Snohomish Re-Hash + UW Info
Hello everyone,
It's nice to say we have a few weekends off from debate tournaments, but don't forget University of WA is quickly approaching. I still need one parent driver or else I'll be limited in the numbers I can bring. We'll be staying overnight at Hotel Deca, within walking distance of the tournament. We will leave at 7:45am from Bellingham (Schools TBD) on Friday the 2nd, so you will be missing most of school. I will work out attendance issues with each school. The tournament starts at 10:30am.
Please sign up with me before the 21st (Monday) so I can arrange transportation, judges, and hotel rooms.
As for Snohomish, I'd like to recognize Ken Carpenter for driving and judging. Thank you so much! We were able to bring more debaters with his help. It wasn't easy getting home at 12:30pm on Friday, and returning at 6:30am Saturday but he did it for the team!
I also want to recognize Felipe Rivera and Connor Carpenter for their 1st place in JV policy debate. This was Felipe's first tournament so we're especially proud. We also had some students who defeated a few of our long time rivals- Marina beat the 2nd place LD'er at the tournament, Valerie defeated Glacier Peak's Helman, and Duncan defeated Snohomish's Carroll. Good job everyone!
We'll also skip practice on the 23rd (Wednesday before Thanksgiving). See you later!

Update from Sedro Woolley + Snohomish HS info
Hi everybody,
Sorry I'm a day late getting this out, but hopefully SQHS announced in their bulletin that Sam Sandoz took second place in novice Lincoln-Douglas debate. She was 5-0 going into finals, and was rematched against Glacier Peak's Alex Helman, whom she had already beaten earlier in the tournament.
A big thank you to Lee Bartlett and Mr. Woods for judging- both are with the WWU debate team and used one of their few weekends off to help us out.
The Snohomish HS tournament is this weekend, and then we get a break from tournaments until December! Please plan to meet at 2pm at Squalicum HS on Friday, the 11th. We will get home late from this tournament since we're not staying overnight. We will call parents when we are coming home. We will depart again at 6:30am sharp on Saturday from SQHS as well, except for Felipe and Connor who will ride down with Connor's father.
I know December seems a long way away, but in order to reserve hotel/vans before the holiday I'll need to sign people up for the University of WA tournament by Nov 22nd. I'll also need another parent driver for that tournament, so please let me know if you can help. It will be an overnight, from the 2nd-3rd.

Looking Ahead to Sedro Woolley/Snohomish Tournaments, Looking Back at Gig Harbor
Hello everyone,
What an impressive showing we had at Gig Harbor HS this past weekend. Everyone did really well, considering the number of schools entered. Duncan Ogg from SQHS placed 1st in Lincoln Douglas JV, with a 5-0 record. He was 4th place speaker overall. William Woods of BHS, in his second tournament of the season, went 4-1 and also took home a trophy. This was no small feat considering the novice pool had over 80 entries. We also need to recognize Marina Rossman who entered Extemporaneous Speaking, an event we haven't done as a team in over four years. Good job, girl!
Thank you very much to our parent driver, judge, and food-supplier Mr. Marshall. We appreciate his patience and staying-power during the long weekend.
Now onto Sedro Woolley...

We are leaving at 2:45pm from SQHS and BHS promptly. I will tell you which school to meet at once I get everyone confirmed. We will return around 9:30pm on Friday night. We will leave again from BHS/SQHS at 8am promptly on Saturday, and will be home around 7:30pm. Please bring food/money for both days. There will be concessions, but I can't garuntee the nutritional factor! And before you can go to Sedro Woolley, please pay your $35 dues for Nov. to your ASB office.
For Snohomish...
Since I need to plan vans/drivers for Snohomish HS tournament on 11/11-11/12, I will also need confirmations from everyone by tomorrow. The plan is to leave at 2pm from the schools (TBD) and come home around 10pm. This is not an overnight tournament! We will leave again at 6:30am from the schools on Saturday, and return home around 10pm.
Parents/guardians- please let me know if you can drive for this tournament. Your involvement determines how many students I can bring, and how much money we save.

Kamiak HS Novice Tournament Invite
Hello debaters,
Below I have included the invitation to the Kamiak Novice Tournament in Mukilteo. This is a Saturday-only tournament, on Oct 15th. We will leave from Bellingham HS's bus turnaround at 7:45am, so please be sure to arrive at least a few minutes beforehand.
We will return around 9pm that evening, and will have students call parents once we depart Kamiak.
Please bring food for the day. The school is selling pizza by the slice at noon, so you may also want to bring money. Students cannot leave campus without an adult, so please plan to eat your meals at Kamiak HS.
Please dress appropriately for the tournament. Business wear (collared shirts, slacks, suits, etc.) is always good, but at the very least no jeans or active wear.
If returning debaters are coming to judge, please bring flow paper and something reliable to time with.
Thank you and remember that the deadline to sign up for the tournament is tomorrow. Drops after the 7th will incur a penalty fee. Questions? Please email/call.

For Debate, sign up students to judge who have competed in that particular form of debate (CX, LD, Controversy) and can produce constructive ballots for competitors.

Cross Examination/Team Debate. Times 8-3-5. 6 Minutes down time per team.
Note: We will be using the Novice Case Areas that were voted on at the coaches meeting this fall.
Lincoln Douglas Debate. Time 6-3-7-3-4-6-3. 4 minutes down time per side. Note: We will use the November/December L.D. topic.

Interpretive Reading…
…is an eight minute reading of a combination of prose and poetry all connected by a theme.
Dramatic Interpretation…
…is a memorized and dramatic performance, cut from a play with a length of no more than ten minutes.
Humorous Interpretation…
…is a memorized and humorous performance, cut from a play, with a length of no more than ten minutes.
Extemporaneous Speaking…
…is a seven minute speech on one of three topics you were given 30 minutes earlier. Current events are the main subject. One note card can be used during your presentation.
Impromptu Speaking…
