State Quals Information for 2/26

Hi Everyone,
Congrats on making it this far! We have the State Qualifier on Tuesday, 2/26. It will be at Kamiak HS in Mukilteo. Students will be picked up at the following times:
1:30p SQHS (meet in lower lot where we park the school vans)
1:50p BHS (meet where we park BHS school vans, along fence by field)
2p SHS (meet in senior/student lot by anchor)
All students will need to be picked up at SQHS on Tuesday evening, approximately 10:30pm. We will call when leaving Kamiak.
Please remember to bring pens, flow paper, and clothes appropriate for debate. Please bring dinner since we won't have time to stop for food and the tournament will probably provide less than nutritious options. Thanks and good luck everyone!

Debate Central Leadership Camp

Periodically I will post information on scholarships and camps. Please contact the camp/foundation directly as I am not affiliated with any of these organizations. I'm merely forwarding on what I am sent. I hope you find something useful to further your debate skills.

Debate Central is proud to announce an exciting opportunity from one of our partners!
"FOUR STAR LEADERSHIP" is a world-class leadership program that allows 50 of the top high school students in the United States to meet face-to-face with national and international leaders. The annual summer program offers a once in a lifetime opportunity, exposing them to some of the same policy briefings world leaders receive, and challenging them to form their own opinions on the issues. Students develop skills in teambuilding, persuasive speaking, persuasive writing, and collective problem solving.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for high school students to learn, to enhance their leadership skills and to potentially gain scholarships, internships, and recommendations. The program is built around the core principles of CHARACTER, COMMON VISION, COMMUNICATION, and CARING, principles that guided General Tommy Franks through his 38-year military career. These same principles form a platform of discovery for the next generation of America's leaders.
Who should attend?
The "Four Star" program is looking for top high school leaders from across America. Attendees should have the potential to build relationships and motivate peers to action. They should be quick on their feet, eager to engage in active dialogue, willing to develop independent ideas and able to communicate effectively.
Students and their schools will have an opportunity to receive:
1. A $2,500 individual scholarship for winning the persuasive speaking competition; and $2,500 for their school
2. A $2,500 individual scholarship for winning the editorial competition; and $2,500 for their school
3. $2,500 in scholarships divided between the top 4 students competing in the Student Congress; and $2,500 for their schools
4. Endorsements and recommendations
Applications are open now for this free program! Apply today!

Federal Way Tournament Info

Hello Debaters Attending the Federal Way Tournament,

Please be aware of departure times. I've let your schools know to excuse you early. The van is from Sehome HS so parents can anticipate picking up students from Sehome on Saturday night.

Departure:
12:45pm- SHS (Felipe, Indigo)
12:55pm- BHS (Marina, Will)
1pm- SQHS (Sam, Duncan, Ryan)

We'll be staying overnight at the Super 8 Motel in Federal Way:
1688 S 348th St, Federal Way, WA

The hotel has continental breakfast but plan on bringing money or food for dinner both days, and lunch on Saturday. The tournament will have concessions but I can't garuntee it will be extensive. We can stop for dinner Friday, lunch Saturday and dinner Saturday.

I can only estimate that we'll return to Sehome around 11pm on Saturday but I will  have students call parents when we are leaving Federal Way.

Please make sure your student brings:
Food/money for both days
Overnight gear (though don't overpack as we only have one van for 8 of us!)
Paper to flow on
Pens
Timer

Students have been coming to tournaments without paper or pens, which are essential to debating well!

Thank you for reading and please contact me if you have questions.
