Hello everyone,
The Kamiak HS tournament in Mukilteo is Feb. 4th and 5th. This is our last tournament open to everyone, since after this we only have the State Qualifying tournament, the National Qualifying tournament, and State. Please email/call me by Wednesday Jan. 26th to register for the Kamiak tournament. Below is the Kamiak invitation. Drops after Jan. 26th mean we will have to charge you for fees, and we cannot add you after the 26th when I submit our roster to Kamiak. Please be sure to pay February dues before coming to the tournament. Thank you for being proactive and speaking to me in a timely manner.
We plan to leave each school around 1:45pm (more details about pickup times at each school to come), and return late Saturday. This is an overnight tournament and we will be staying at the Hotel Marriott in Mukilteo. As always, bring overnight gear and food or money for two days. We will have continental breakfast provided by the hotel. Ann Osborne is signed up to drive/judge for us, which we appreciate!
Now onto Mt. Vernon results: We had a successful weekend, which made our late schedule worth it. Our hybrid novice policy team from Bellingham/Sehome (Jaime Korner and Connor Carpenter, respectively) won 1st place in a 3-0 decision in Finals. Jaime was also first place novice policy speaker. This was their first tournament working together and they did very well.
Rose Osborne of Sehome won semi-finals, advanced to finals, and took 2nd place. She was also 1st place Open Lincoln Douglas speaker AND won a bid to State. That means she is automatically competing at UPS in March. Will McShane, also of Sehome, placed 6th for his first LD tournament. Not bad at all!
I would like to especially thank our two judges for the weekend- Jeff Bennett and Ben Rollins. Thank you for being invested in our students. Secondly, Michael Korner graciously drove both days which allowed us to bring two vans of students. Lynn Korner, the Carpenters, and the Osbornes also came along as parental support. Grant Resick also donated part of his Saturday to critiquing rounds. The students really appreciated it. Thank you to everyone who made this tournament happen.
I look forward to hearing from you about the Kamiak tournament,
Aly Hoover
